Harley Quinn #0 Contest Page by DStPierre Harley Quinn #0 Contest Page by DStPierre
So I was really excited to see this contest happening but then irritated because it was right in the middle of my big move to Seattle (which I am still in the middle of in the sense that we made it to Seattle but have no furniture or internet--right now I am using my phone as a hot spot and really racking up the data usage). Still, I started sketching and working out my ideas during my downtime while getting the house in Texas packed up and was able to finish it up after getting as settled as we could this weekend after arriving in Seattle. I was really worried I wouldn't make the deadline (which is tomorrow morning).

But I did and here it is. The inked page I submitted. I know that I am up against some really talented artists... so I don't know what will happen but I ultimately had a lot of fun working on it and gave me an excuse to explore and experiment. :)

I don't really like the concept of trying to sensualize suicide, but I do like the 3rd panel as she seems to enjoy it, and there is the chance of her making it out alive from that to do it all over again.

I work mostly as a freelance colorist, most of my work coming from indy/creator owned books. I have done some coloring for Zenescope but lately I am trying to work on my illustration abilities trying to branch out into penciling. I have my own book that I did all the artwork for (indyplanet.com/store/product_i… which has given me some practice but I'm always looking for other excuses to try new things. :)

By Zod, you've gotten incredibly good! It feels like just yesterday you were asking me about lineweights and inking techniques and now you're busting out work of this polished calibur. Don't say this often but color me seriously impressed!

Great take on the panel descriptions and very expressive emoting on Quinn's face. Good flow and easy to understand, just solid work especially considering everything you were dealing with while doing it. There are some very minor issues peppered here and there but most folks won't catch 'em or care; they're so minimal and it's just such a well done page given the material.

Best of luck with it. If nothing else this is a strong addition to your portfolio and I can only wonder where you'll go from here with your work coming along as nicely as this. Can't wait to see though! No pressure. =D

Wow. Thank you so much! It really means a lot to me to hear you say this. I'd love to hear your critique on the minor issues... any excuse to learn. :D You know... if you have time. I don't want to bother you if you're busy.
Thanks again! :D
