Harley Quinn #0 Contest Page by DStPierre Harley Quinn #0 Contest Page by DStPierre
So I was really excited to see this contest happening but then irritated because it was right in the middle of my big move to Seattle (which I am still in the middle of in the sense that we made it to Seattle but have no furniture or internet--right now I am using my phone as a hot spot and really racking up the data usage). Still, I started sketching and working out my ideas during my downtime while getting the house in Texas packed up and was able to finish it up after getting as settled as we could this weekend after arriving in Seattle. I was really worried I wouldn't make the deadline (which is tomorrow morning).

But I did and here it is. The inked page I submitted. I know that I am up against some really talented artists... so I don't know what will happen but I ultimately had a lot of fun working on it and gave me an excuse to explore and experiment. :)

I don't really like the concept of trying to sensualize suicide, but I do like the 3rd panel as she seems to enjoy it, and there is the chance of her making it out alive from that to do it all over again.

I work mostly as a freelance colorist, most of my work coming from indy/creator owned books. I have done some coloring for Zenescope but lately I am trying to work on my illustration abilities trying to branch out into penciling. I have my own book that I did all the artwork for (indyplanet.com/store/product_i… which has given me some practice but I'm always looking for other excuses to try new things. :)

By Zod, you've gotten incredibly good! It feels like just yesterday you were asking me about lineweights and inking techniques and now you're busting out work of this polished calibur. Don't say this often but color me seriously impressed!

Great take on the panel descriptions and very expressive emoting on Quinn's face. Good flow and easy to understand, just solid work especially considering everything you were dealing with while doing it. There are some very minor issues peppered here and there but most folks won't catch 'em or care; they're so minimal and it's just such a well done page given the material.

Best of luck with it. If nothing else this is a strong addition to your portfolio and I can only wonder where you'll go from here with your work coming along as nicely as this. Can't wait to see though! No pressure. =D

Wow. Thank you so much! It really means a lot to me to hear you say this. I'd love to hear your critique on the minor issues... any excuse to learn. :D You know... if you have time. I don't want to bother you if you're busy.
Thanks again! :D

No worries, praise where it's due and it's due here. If you don't mind I'd like to do a draw over of the page to better illustrate the very small details and I'll email it to you to see. Like I mentioned, there is nothing wrong with the page and the stuff I'll send you is just to tighten it up a bit as you already have a very solid foundation going and you can apply some of these tips to your next work.

Regardless of what the competition is, this is some really nice work and a funny idea to work with. Would be cool to see this get colored.

Yeah... depending on how things turn out I was thinking of posting the high res just to see how other people's colors would look on my sequentials.

That's a really nice page. Lots of detail and realism (i.e. the knots in the net) and lots of good perspective. Awesome job. All the poses and figure work is bang on too, I especially like the hand ready to cut the rope, spot on! :w00t:

Very cool! You did an awesome job on this. I love her expressions.

And I hope you like it in Seattle. It was hot all summer but we are back to the usual fall weather now.

And so far I am loving it. We're still waiting for our furniture and are currently camping out on the floor. It's been a little hard on my back and neck. Hopefully the moving truck will be here Saturday and I'll be sleeping on my pillowy bed. :)

Oh man, the level of detail in here is gorgeous. There are full comics they put out that don't look as good as this. It's mighty fine work no matter what, good framing and and nice expression-work all around. Sets a mood in each panel!

Thank you for the supportive comments! :D I'm so glad to hear you say that about the moods. I really wanted to push myself as far as exaggeration goes and glad it didn't detract from the work. :)
